Commenting Guidelines

When commenting on blogs, there are a few guidelines that must be followed in order to be sure that a comment is valid and appropriate. Here are the 5 most important guidelines and examples of different comments that either obey or disobey those guidelines:

1. Don’t give away any personal info

  • Full Name
  • Address
  • Telephone no.

2. Don’t be rude or offensive

  • Don’t use inappropriate words or photos
  • Don’t insult others
  • If you disagree with something that has been written in a post, don’t express your disagreement in an impolite manner

3. Don’t be useless and/or unhelpful

  • Don’t go off topic
  • Don’t go on and on and on
  • Don’t just give the blogger all of the positives about the post or all of the negatives about the post – give them a little bit of both the positives and the negatives

4. Make a conversation

  • Express your feelings and thoughts
  • Ask questions
  • Give the blogger the URL for your blog so that they can look at and comment on your posts

These guidelines may seem extremely obvious but I have seen many comments almost exactly identical to the ones I have used as examples for disobeying the guidelines.

So make sure that every time you go to comment on somebody’s blog, you always check that your post follows these 5 simple guidelines before you press “Post Comment”.
